Spread the Message That There is Hope, People’s Forum, Elkhart Truth, January 2010

It was a difficult year for many people in Elkhart County.  For 21 people in Elkhart County, the burdens were too heavy.  They decided to end their lives in suicide.  These deaths were traumatic for their friends and families.

Coalition to Host Gatekeeper Training, People’s Forum, June 2009

Last fall the Elkhart County Suicide Prevention Coalition shared an art display with the Elkhart County community.  The display, “Hope:  A work of Art in Progress” was art work created by individuals who had been affected by suicide.

Suicide Awareness is Prevention

When physical, psychological and situational circumstances bring undue stress into our lives, feelings of depression can develop. Long-term untreated depression can lead to suicide. To prevent suicide in our community, we must first raise our collective awareness and develop a sense of shared responsibility toward each other.
