Elkhart County Suicide Prevention Coalition
History
The Coalition’s Story and Mission
The Elkhart County Suicide Prevention Coalition first came together in October of 2003 as a result of a growing concern about the increased rates of suicide in Elkhart County. In 2003, Elkhart County experienced 20 deaths by suicide, 7 more than the state average of 12. As a result of this concern, a collaborative effort of many local organizations and concerned citizens began.
The Coalition meets at the Elkhart County Health Department, Lincoln Center the fourth Wednesday of each month at 8:30 am. All meetings are open to the public and we welcome you to join us.
As a part of their mission, the Coalition:
•Provides informational programs for schools, community groups, employers and agencies.
•Provides information on resources available.
•In partnership with Ryan’s Place, offers a support group for those who have lost a loved to suicide.
•Organizes an Annual Walk to raise awareness and to honor World Suicide Prevention Day.
